Fathom Analytics Alternative

Why choose SEAL Metrics over Fathom Analytics?

There are not many Privacy-first Analytics solutions on the market, but one of them is Fathom Analytics.

It is a very light and pleasant to use tool with concrete and clear metrics.

Fathom Analytics has been helping websites to measure their traffic while respecting users’ privacy for several years.

Similarities in Fathom Analytics and SEAL Metrics

Privacy-First Web Analytics:

Both solutions seek to respect user privacy by offering clear and concise metrics. From what we can see in their demo account it loads data quickly and is pleasant to use.

Founders Team:

Its founders are formed by two people, without investors that can mark the development of the technology. Exactly the same as SEAL Metrics.

Alternative to Google Analytics:

Both companies postulate themselves as an alternative to Google Analytics and Matomo from the basis of respect for user privacy.

Differences between Fathom Analytics and SEAL Metrics:

How data is obtained:

Fathom Analytics works with a very sophisticated fingerprinting system based on more than 26 different variables which are impossible to associate to a person, thus respecting the GDPR, user privacy, but not the ePrivacy Regulation.

They themselves explain how their technology works in this tweet.

It does not comply with the ePrivacy Regulation

The main difference, from what we have read in their documentation or they themselves have published on twitter, is that they base their technology on a very sophisticated fingerprint.

As different lawyer firms that we asked and our own legal team advised us, Fingerprinting technology is a GDPR compliant technology but not ePrivacy Regulation compliant.

β€œThe ePrivacy Regulation says that you can NOT individually analyze a user even if it is anonymized.”

Again: The ePrivacy Regulation says that you cannot analyze a user individually, even if they are anonymized. Therefore, it is a legal technology, BUT it requires the user’s consent.

Different analytics approaches:

From the data we can see in your dashboard, it is an analytics system oriented to simple analytics, with very specific KPIs, but not business oriented.

The owners of eCommerce or digital businesses will notice the lack of a very important KPI: the turnover.

We could say that if you have a website such as a blog, Fathom is a good option. If you only need to measure clicks and leads because you have traffic from few traffic sources, and you don’t invest in advertising, Fathom Analytics could be a good option.

KPIS that corroborate that they base their technology on individualized analysis:

  • Bounce Rate.
  • Data by country.
  • Session Duration.

To calculate the above KPIs you need to measure individually or work with the IP. The problem with the IP is that it is personal data, so it will also require consent.

Web analytics for digital business

In SEAL Metrics we have deep and not complex data reporting that help the marketer to make decisions, such as:

  • Turnover, ROAS and Costs.
  • Conversions by Source, Campaign or Term.
  • Reporting by Days, Weeks or Months.
  • Sales Funnel creation.
  • Advanced filters.

Take a 2 minute walk through SEAL Metrics.

Filter by pages – URL

Fathom Analytics has a very interesting filter that consists in being able to see the data of clicks and page views according to the URL that is being visited.

SEAL metrics does not have this filtering; we have discussed it with our current clients and it is not a feature that they find interesting, so we do not foresee developing it in the short term.

Fathom Analytics has more clients than SEAL Metrics.

Totally agree, Fathom Analytics has possibly thousands of customers worldwide. Our business model is very different from theirs. Because of the type of dashboards they offer, Fathom is oriented to non-ecommerce clients.

SEAL Metrics was born in May 2021, once the regulations were clear. Once the regulations were clarified and made public, we launched the analytics tool. In a few months, we have achieved e-commerce with more than 60 million page views.

In conclusion, the best way to compare SEAL metrics is to test and compare.

If you want to try SEAL metrics, you have 7 days free trial, fixed-price unlimited domains, unlimited traffic. Choose the package that interests you the most and starts seeing the reality of your data.
